Reasons To Be Cheerful #3: The Lift

If you see this man, take the stairs

If you see this man, take the stairs

All praise the lift. That thankful facility that helps us to steer clear of unnecessary exercise.

Obviously, if you are in the 1994 smash hit Speed and Dennis Hopper is hanging around, six flights don’t look quite so desperate (or if you’re locked in an early 20th century lift – see Titanic).

For those of you that don't remember Speed, this is what happens if you do get in the lift with Dennis Hopper

If you do get in the lift with Dennis Hopper don’t be surprised when this happens

But for the most part, these feats of invention help those of us on higher floors to elude starting the day wiping perspiration from our foreheads and regretting the light blue shirt we put on that morning.

(REASONS TO BE PISSED OFF: LIFT AWKWARDNESS)

You’re in the lift going all the way to the top of the office.  You get to floor four and everyone leaves except you and a colleague you happened to go to school with, plus a slightly creepy guy who always holds the door for you. All you can do is stand in a corner and look at another corner. Maybe you should have taken the stairs after all?
