Reasons To Be Cheerful #19: Spring is Finally Here!

24 Apr

Avid readers may remember my first post, The Bleak Mid-Spring. A mere month ago we were fighting our way through snowstorms (slight exxageration), but now the sun has finally got his hat on. The change is tangible, people are happy. This morning, I even smiled at the moody-faced woman who I walk past everyday. She didn’t smile back, but the thought was there. Here’s the cheeriness:

1. Legs

Yes, legs are out. Granted it’s not really quite warm enough in my books to warrant bare pins, but it’s a sure sign of things to come. We all know that blokes love summer because it essentially means women are more naked (sorry gay men, I’m pandering to the majority here), but it’s not all bad for us girls either. For those taking the premature sundress and sandal route, there is the joy of showing off your (fake) tan. And for the rest of us, there is the bitching.

2. Sunglasses

As any self-respecting Heat reader will know, sunglasses are an essential fashion item – as important as, say, your shoes or pants. But us non-celebs can’t really get away with bowling around the place wearing them in winter, unless we don’t mind looking like pricks. Now the sun is out,  our chance is here. And for the select few that know they look really, really hot in sunnies, there is at last the  opportunity to show the  whole office. It’s only natural to forget to remove your dark sunglasses before reaching your desk on the sixth floor.

3. The Mood

The mood has finally lifted. Yes, there is still the pushing and rushing that characterises any walk to work in the city, but elsewhere people are much happier. When something bad happens to you, like losing an earring, it is not given additional ominous meaning by the entirely coincidental appearance of rain. It just happens and then you see that it’s sunny.

4. Shopping

What is Spring without a colour-coded capsule wardrobe?

What is Spring without a colour-coded capsule wardrobe?

At last we can justifiably add to our spring wardrobe (by wardrobe I obviously mean part of the middle drawer where you keep your t-shirts) with whatever the shops and ASOS has told us is big for S/S ’13. Unfortunately for some of us (ie: me) excessive spending, previously justified by the miserable weather, deems the next paycheck insufficient to fulfil said wardrobe-filling needs.

(REASONS TO BE PISSED OFF: The sweltering train. This heat is less enjoyable)
